I think when people are complaining about the coffeemaker breaking down after 18-24 months, they forget that the basic coffeemakers around this price point also break down after the same amount of time. This might be why it lasted longer than what some are saying. I can't afford to get some expensive latte machine that everyone thinks is "cool." And, I make at least one pot of coffee a day.
And, I could make 10 cups instead of just one at a time. As for the leaking issues mentioned, I did have bits of coffee get lodged and cause a problem but I just check it before I use it. I was drawn to this machine because for not more than what I had previously, I got a well-brewed cup and the frothing.
I'm a big fan of this coffee machine, but I will say that after having mine for about five years, I can't make lattes anymore. Prior to this machine, I was frustrated because I was buying a new coffee maker every couple of years. Either they made crappy coffee, or they broke (as my espresso machine did after a year).
I also don't let water sit in the steamer well. That said, now that the steamer is broken, I'm missing my froth and am trying to decide if I should get a new one.I would love to get a new one but would like to see Capresso admit to some of the problems and make some improvements or at least give instructions on better care for the machine.but, having said that, I'd buy it over the Krupps or Cuisinart equivalents.
I brought the capresso maker for primarily the frother. After two uses of the frother, it did not work, or it took too long.That was about 200 dollars for a function that I do not even use now. It is basically a coffee maker, which i could have PAID for a lot less.
We ordered, took delivery, opened, tried, called customer service and returned four different Capresso units over a two month period. The frothing function wouldn't work correctly. We decided to keep our four year old capresso coffeemaker (which works pretty well)and canceled our order. On the positive side, I did learn how to return merchandise through UPS and thankfully, UPS did a good job.
After actually reading all the instructions this time, I think this one will last longer with proper care. We finally had to get a replacement when several things stopped working (the water container leaked, the steamer wasn't working very well and the little knob to select 3-5 cups broke). We received this coffee maker as a wedding gift 9 years ago and love it. It's very important to not only clean the steamer parts within 2 hours of use, but to also turn the steam on without the parts attached to clean it out properly. It stilled brewed excellent coffee, but too many things were broken, so we decided to buy a refurbished one. The refurbished one is like new and working great. Decalcification of the coffee maker and the steamer are also critical to keep everything functioning properly. Enjoy.
I LOVE this machine. I bought it 10 years ago, and it's still making as good coffee as it did the first time. Makes almost no noise, dependable, easy to clean and fantastic. It's my best friend every morning.
